In the summer of her twentieth year on stage, the Munich-based choreographer has created a musical dance piece for young people that shows the body as a resonating instrument and celebrates the freedom of art.

As they jerk their necks back and forth, roll their shoulders, and soften and mobilize their legs, their vocal cords also pick up the vibration: they click, hum, and produce something between body noise, beatboxing, and rap. The piece itself is also a hybrid, billed as a cross between dance and concert. It’s called “Sound on!”, and that rightly sounds like a starting signal. Because right from the start, something happens here that has to do with action, but also a lot with exchange, because the performers’ voices are fed back into the loop machine that Sergej Maingardt integrates into his electronic musical composition.
